MC Ryan SP ordered by court to credit composer for 34 songs

A court in Santos, Brazil, has ordered singer MC Ryan SP and the production company GR6 to credit composer Lucas Vieira Jozimba, known as Luska, for 34 songs in his repertoire. The ruling follows claims that Luska was denied proper authorship credits and profit sharing despite agreements made when submitting his compositions.

The dispute involves several high-profile hits, including “Cracolândia” (also known as “Ilusão”), which has surpassed 200 million views on YouTube, as well as tracks such as “Marcha” and “Amante da minha conta”.

Judge Rodrigo Garcia Martinez ruled that copyright protection in Brazil is independent of formal registration, rejecting the defense's argument that the songs lacked registration with the União Brasileira de Compositores (UBC). The court ordered the artist and GR6 to include Luska’s name on digital platforms and with the Escritório Central de Arrecadação e Distribuição (Ecad) within 30 days. Failure to comply may result in a daily fine of R$ 1,000. Additionally, the ruling mandates the transfer of royalties and includes a R$ 20,000 compensation for moral damages.
