MCA to participate in Melaka state elections, says Zahid
Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has clarified that the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) will not be sitting out the upcoming Melaka state elections. This follows recent tensions and a walkout by MCA leaders during a BN candidate announcement, where the party expressed dissatisfaction regarding seat allocations.
Zahid described a recent meeting between BN leadership and MCA President Wee Ka Siong as “positive.” While Zahid declined to provide specific details, he stated that Melaka BN chief Ab Rauf Yusoh has been mandated to announce the final outcome of these discussions.
Ab Rauf Yusoh confirmed that negotiations aimed to resolve the deadlock regarding seat distribution. However, he noted that the final decision remains subject to the collective stance of the MCA leadership. MCA leaders previously staged a walkout to protest the allocation of seats they previously contested to other parties without what they deemed proper consultation.
