McAfee Report Shows Consumers and Travelers Overlook Scam Warnings as Prices Rise
McAfee’s research reveals that a large share of online shoppers ignore red‑flag warnings when chasing low‑price deals. Around 82% prioritize cheap prices, 55% spend more time hunting bargains and 40% would trust a lower‑priced offer without verification. Economic pressure and confidence that they could spot scams, the study says, make users vulnerable, especially as AI‑generated content creates more convincing fake reviews, logos and URLs.
A related study on travellers found that 38% have encountered a travel‑related scam and 41% of those lost money, often over $500. High price pressure leads 33% to ignore warnings, while 41% trust messages that appear to come from airlines or hotels. The report highlights common risky habits such as using public Wi‑Fi, scanning QR codes and clicking unverified travel links. Both reports stress that AI is making scams easier to create and scale, urging users to verify deals and avoid rushed decisions.
