MCC founder seeks legal redress following foundation dissolution

András Tombor, the founder of the Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC), has announced that he is seeking legal redress in both Hungarian and European courts following the dissolution of the MCC Foundation. The foundation is scheduled to cease operations on July 31, 2026, following a decision by the Hungarian state and the Prime Minister’s Office.

Tombor criticized the recent actions of the government, alleging that the dissolution is driven by political motives rather than professional or legal reasoning. He claimed that despite previous assurances from the Prime Minister’s Office regarding the institution's continuity, the government issued a rejection based on “baseless legal grounds” just three days before the deadline.

Tombor also addressed the management of assets, stating that the foundation had grown its state-allocated assets from 485 billion HUF to 825 billion HUF. He expressed concern for the approximately 8,000 students affected by the decision, suggesting that the state is absorbing the institution's programs without a clear concept, effectively dismantling a major talent development center.
