McCarthy-Mallam road rehabilitation begins in Ghana
Rehabilitation works have commenced on the McCarthy-Mallam Junction stretch of the Accra-Cape Coast Highway. The project aims to address severe traffic congestion, deep potholes, and deteriorating road conditions that have plagued commuters for years.
Weija-Gbawe Member of Parliament Jerry Ahmed Shaib credited the start of construction to his advocacy and sustained pressure from media outlets, including Citi FM, Channel One TV, and JoyNews. Mr. Shaib had previously petitioned the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, noting that journeys which typically take minutes were stretching into hours due to the road's state.
The highway serves as a vital transport corridor for residents traveling between Kasoa, Winneba, Weija-Gbawe, and various parts of Accra, such as Kaneshie and Dansan. Beyond congestion, the poor road conditions have raised concerns regarding vehicle maintenance costs and increased accident risks.
