McCormick's Creek State Park to receive $25M campground rebuild

Governor Mike Braun and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources have announced a $25 million project to rebuild the campground at McCormick's Creek State Park. The facility has been closed since an EF-3 tornado struck the area on March 31, 2023, causing significant destruction to the campground and surrounding trees.

The new 65-acre campground will feature 224 total campsites, including 192 full-hookup sites equipped with electricity, water, and sewer connections, as well as 32 primitive sites for tent camping. The upgraded site will also include a new gatehouse, a camp store, three comfort stations, playgrounds, and extensive landscaping with new tree plantings.

Construction bids are expected to open on October 20, 2026, with the new campground projected to welcome visitors in the summer of 2028. While the campground remains closed, other parts of the park, such as the Canyon Inn, cabins, and nature center, remain open to the public.
