McDonald's achieves 50th consecutive dividend increase

McDonald's has achieved a significant milestone by increasing its dividend for the 50th consecutive time, earning it the status of a “dividend king.” The quarterly payout has risen by nearly 4% to $1.93 per share, representing a dividend yield of approximately 3.3% based on recent stock prices.

Despite this milestone, the company faces operational challenges. While global system sales rose by 7% to $139.4 billion in 2025, recent comparable sales growth has been modest, with a 1.3% increase worldwide and a 0.8% increase in the US during the second quarter of 2026. In the US, a decline in guest numbers was partially offset by higher average spending and a more favorable product mix.

To address these pressures and improve profitability, McDonald's is implementing its “NEXT” strategy, which involves an investment of $8.5 billion aimed at gaining market share and increasing restaurant efficiency. The company continues to rely heavily on its franchise model, which accounted for approximately 95% of its restaurants by the end of 2025.
