McDonald's expands footprint through new real estate initiatives
McDonald's, through its operator Arcos Dorados, is actively seeking new real estate opportunities for restaurant expansion across 21 countries, including Mexico. The company has launched a dedicated real estate portal for individuals and businesses to propose land in high-traffic urban and suburban areas. Preferred locations include sites with high visibility, vehicle and pedestrian access, and potential for modern drive-thru formats.
In Mexico, the evaluation process focuses on accessibility, legal status, and commercial potential. Properties on corners, main avenues, or commercial zones are particularly attractive. Arcos Dorados does not provide a fixed payment rate per square meter; instead, financial proposals are tailored to the specific characteristics and commercial viability of each site after a technical evaluation.
Separately, in Spain, the fast-food chain is expanding its presence in Seville by opening a new location in the Gran Plaza neighborhood of Nervión. The restaurant will occupy a regionalist building from the 1920s, formerly home to the iconic El Toboso restaurant. The project involves transforming the historic structure into a modern establishment located near existing fast-food outlets in the area.
