McDonald’s expands in Brazil with new Canela restaurant
McDonald’s is expanding its operations in Brazil with the opening of its 62nd restaurant in Rio Grande do Sul, located in Canela. The new unit aims to serve both local residents and the growing tourist population, offering services such as drive-thru, self-service kiosks, and delivery. The establishment features sustainable infrastructure, including rainwater and air-conditioning water recycling systems.
The new location is expected to create over 50 jobs, specifically targeting youth for first-time employment opportunities. Management for the unit was developed internally from existing regional staff.
In relation to workforce development, Fábio Sant’Anna, Director of People and Culture at Arcos Dorados (the operator of McDonald’s in Latin America and the Caribbean), highlighted essential skills for young professionals entering the market. He emphasized the importance of developing soft skills—such as emotional intelligence, empathy, and adaptability—and the value of authentic networking and continuous learning through platforms like MCampus, FGV, and the Ministry of Education.
