McDonald's expands in Japan with new stores in Awara and Toda

McDonald's is expanding its presence in Japan with new locations scheduled to open in different regions.

In Awara City, Fukui Prefecture, the city has signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with TMA, the operator responsible for the upcoming McDonald's location near Awara Onsen Station. This marks the first time the company has entered such an agreement with a municipality. The partnership aims to support regional revitalization, information dissemination, next-generation development, disaster prevention, and crime prevention. Specific initiatives include food education for elementary students, career seminars for teenagers, and providing shelter for stranded commuters during disasters. The new store is expected to open in December at the site of the former 'a Cube' facility.

In Toda City, Saitama Prefecture, a new McDonald's location in Hikawa-cho is scheduled for a grand opening on December 18, 2026. The site is currently under construction next to the Maruetsu Hikawa-cho store.
