McDonald’s faces lawsuit over McRib meat composition

A federal judge in Chicago has ruled that a class-action lawsuit against McDonald’s regarding its McRib sandwich can proceed. U.S. District Judge April Perry rejected the company’s attempt to dismiss claims of consumer deception, fraud, and unjust enrichment, though five other claims were dismissed without prejudice.

The lawsuit, filed by four consumers in December 2025, alleges that the McRib’s name, marketing, and ribbed patty shape mislead customers into believing the sandwich contains pork rib meat. Plaintiffs claim the boneless pork patty is actually composed of less expensive cuts, such as shoulder, heart, tripe, and stomach.

McDonald’s has denied these allegations, stating that the McRib is made from 100% pork sourced from American farmers and suppliers. The company specifically denied using heart, tripe, or scalded stomach in the product and argued that the name and presentation do not mislead a reasonable consumer.
