McDonald's enters energy drink market with Red Bull partnership

McDonald’s is expanding its beverage menu by entering the energy drink market through a partnership with Red Bull. Starting August 17, participating U.S. locations will offer the ‘Red Bull Dragonberry Energizer,’ a drink combining Red Bull with blue raspberry syrup and freeze-dried dragonfruit pieces. The beverage contains 80 milligrams of caffeine, and customers can opt for a lower-sugar version using Red Bull Zero.

In addition to the specialty mixed drink, McDonald’s will sell standalone 8.4-ounce cans of Red Bull. This move follows successful regional testing and aligns with the company’s ongoing strategy to diversify its non-coffee drink offerings, such as its ‘crafted sodas’ and ‘refreshers.’

Alongside the energy drink launch, the company is introducing new soda flavors, including a ‘Vanilla Swirl’ option that can be added to Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, or Coke Zero Sugar. Alyssa Buetikofer, McDonald’s USA’s chief marketing and customer experience officer, noted that the expansion responds to growing consumer demand for diverse beverage choices.
