McDonald's to remove McRib from German menu after 37 years
McDonald's has announced that the McRib will be removed from its regular menu in Germany on October 27. The pork patty burger, which has been available in German branches since 1989, is being discontinued without a specific reason provided by the company.
The decision has generated significant interest among fans, including Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder, who previously expressed his preference for the burger on social media. While the McRib is being phased out as a regular item in Germany, the company has announced a limited-time alternative called the ‘McRib Sweet Heat,’ which features a sweet and spicy chili sauce.
Historically, the McRib was developed in the United States in the early 1980s as a response to chicken shortages. While it is leaving the permanent German lineup, the item remains available in other regions, such as the United States and Luxembourg.
