McDonald's Visby franchise boosts youth employment on Gotland

Magnus Larsson, owner of several McDonald’s restaurants in Visby, Gotland, employs around 120 staff and has focused on hiring young people. Through the "Alla Behövs" project and cooperation with the Swedish Public Employment Service, his outlets provide part‑time work for about 80 teenagers and recent school leavers, giving them income, work experience and a sense of direction.

Larsson’s restaurants also support local sports clubs, cultural activities and an initiative that converts used fry oil into locally produced biogas. He aims to involve more than 50 companies on the island in creating jobs, working closer with schools to expand the programme. In 2025 McDonald’s hired over 6,400 new employees nationwide and delivered 46,000 training hours, underscoring the chain’s role in youth employment in Sweden.
