McDowell County, West Virginia, issued flash flood warnings
A severe flash flood warning was issued for McDowell County, West Virginia, following heavy thunderstorms. Doppler radar indicated significant rainfall, with between 1.5 and 2.5 inches already fallen in some areas, and additional amounts up to 1 inch possible.
The flooding impacts small creeks, streams, urban areas, highways, and low-lying locations such as War, Bradshaw, and Cucumber. Authorities have advised residents to avoid driving through flooded roads, noting that many flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.
Weather forecasts indicate that wet conditions will persist through the weekend. While initial heavy rain has subsided, additional bands of showers are expected to move through the region. A stationary front may lead to further intense rainfall and increased flash flooding risks on Sunday.
