McLaren and Ferrari upgrades show diverging performance at Zandvoort

Technical upgrades introduced by McLaren and Ferrari at the Zandvoort circuit have yielded contrasting performance results. Analysis of the Dutch Grand Prix weekend indicates that while both teams saw improvements, their strategic strengths have diverged.

McLaren focused on rear wing and bodywork modifications to increase downforce, successfully boosting single-lap qualifying pace. However, this approach led to challenges with tyre degradation and handling issues in slow corners. Lando Norris noted that the car struggled with stability despite having the shortest wheelbase on the grid.

In contrast, Ferrari’s SF-26 demonstrated superior tyre management and balance. This strength was highlighted during the sprint race, where Charles Leclerc utilized a soft compound tyre to maintain performance, eventually overtaking Norris due to better grip retention. Ferrari's ability to manage tyre wear provides a significant strategic advantage for longer race distances.
