McLaren CEO Zak Brown expresses interest in Max Verstappen

Formula 1 Max Verstappen Zak Brown McLaren Racing Red Bull Racing

McLaren CEO Zak Brown has stated that the door remains “wide open” for Max Verstappen to join the team in the future, despite the four-time Formula 1 world champion recently extending his contract with Red Bull Racing through 2030.

Brown revealed in an interview with De Telegraaf that he held several exploratory conversations with Verstappen last summer to get to know him better. Brown noted that he was deeply impressed by Verstappen’s technical proficiency and focus, comparing his approach to that of Fernando Alonso. He described the driver as “charming” and a “racer through and through.”

While Verstappen is currently committed to Red Bull, reports suggest his contract may include performance clauses that could allow for an earlier exit. McLaren currently maintains a driver lineup featuring Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, both of whom have long-term commitments to the team.
