McLaren driver Lando Norris addresses qualifying strategy errors at Monza

McLaren driver Lando Norris has addressed internal team discussions following a strategic error during qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. Norris ultimately started the race in eighth position after a failed slipstream strategy during the Q3 session.

During the final stages of qualifying, Norris provided a slipstream to teammate Oscar Piastri on his first flying lap. The team intended to reverse this arrangement for Norris’s subsequent attempt, but Piastri locked his wheels and went wide at the first chicane, preventing him from providing the necessary tow to Norris.

Team principal Andrea Stella emphasized the need for more precise execution. The team also faces logistical challenges due to its status as the current constructors' champion, which places them at the front of the pit lane. This positioning forces McLaren to be among the first to enter the track, which can be disadvantageous at circuits like Monza where slipstreaming is critical. Norris noted that while the team could have managed the exit better, he views these challenges as a consequence of the team's success.
