McLaren drivers address Singapore collision and team dynamics

Lando Norris has apologized for his role in a collision with teammate Oscar Piastri during the Singapore Grand Prix sprint race. The incident, which occurred during an attempt to overtake for fourth place, resulted in both drivers being eliminated and cost the team valuable points in the constructors' championship.

McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella confirmed that discussions were held at the Woking headquarters to prevent similar occurrences. Norris stated he is taking responsibility for his error in judgment and aims to make better decisions to represent the team effectively.

Former team principal Otmar Szafnauer has suggested that McLaren should implement financial penalties or restructure driver contracts to better protect team interests. He proposed linking a portion of driver bonuses directly to McLaren’s final position in the constructors' championship to ensure personal ambitions do not supersede collective team goals.
