McLaren F1 GTR chassis 10R owned by Pink Floyd drummer to fetch over $30 million at auction

The chassis 10R McLaren F1 GTR, the first road‑legal GTR‑spec model built for the 1996 season, is set to be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s. It has been owned since 1999 by Nick Mason, the drummer of Pink Floyd, and is the only privately held example of its kind. Experts estimate the sale could exceed $30 million (about €30 million), which would make it the most expensive McLaren F1 sold at a public auction.

The car has a storied racing pedigree and has survived two serious accidents – a 2009 test‑drive crash and a 2017 Goodwood incident – both of which were fully restored by specialist firm Lanzante. Its rarity, historic significance and road‑legal conversion have driven collector demand, leading to the anticipated record‑breaking price at next month’s auction.
