McLaren F1 GTR chassis 10R expected to fetch over $35 million at Monterey auction

The 1996‑specification McLaren F1 GTR chassis 10R, the sole example built with its original factory scarlet‑and‑yellow livery, will be offered at RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction. The car, one of only nine short‑tail F1 GTRs produced and the prototype used by McLaren for Le Mans development, was sold in 1999 to Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, who has kept it in his private collection for nearly three decades.

Estimated to sell for more than US$35 million (about €30.6 million or HUF 11 billion), the auction would make it the most expensive McLaren ever sold publicly, surpassing the 1994 model’s previous record of $25.3 million. The sale highlights the rarity of the vehicle, its racing pedigree, and its status as a coveted collector’s item.

The auction is scheduled for August at Monterey, California, with RM Sotheby’s handling the sale. The proceeds and final price will set a new benchmark for historic supercar valuations.
