McLaren F1 GTR from Nick Mason Set to Fetch Record $35 Million at US Auction

The McLaren F1 GTR chassis 10R, owned for decades by former Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, will be offered at RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction in California from August 13‑15. The car, one of only two factory‑built short‑tail prototypes, has been fully restored and is expected to sell for around US$35 million (about R$178 million), which would surpass the current record price of US$25.3 million set in 2025.

RM Sotheby’s highlights the vehicle’s rarity – of the 106 McLaren F1s produced, only 28 were GTR‑type race cars – and its provenance, noting Mason purchased the chassis directly from McLaren in 1999 and that it has featured at events such as Goodwood and Rétromobile. The auction will determine whether the 10R becomes the most expensive super‑car ever sold at public sale.
