McLaren to sell five historic Formula 1 cars from heritage collection
McLaren Racing is putting five iconic Formula 1 cars from its Heritage Collection up for sale through specialist dealer Tom Hartley Jnr. The collection spans 32 years of racing history and includes vehicles driven by world champions such as Ayrton Senna, Lewis Hamilton, and Lando Norris.
Notable models include two 1991 McLaren MP4/6A chassis (04 and 07), which featured Honda V12 engines and were used by Gerhard Berger and Ayrton Senna. The sale also features a 2012 MP4/27A driven by Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, as well as the 2021 MCL35M. Additionally, the 2023 MCL37A is included, which was famously driven by actor Brad Pitt during the filming of the ‘F1’ movie.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown stated that the decision to sell was made because the team believes these cars were “built to be driven and raced,” and they wish to see them active rather than sitting in storage. Before being handed over to new owners, each vehicle will undergo a complete restoration at the team’s factory in England to ensure the preservation of their original mechanical and aesthetic integrity.
