McLaren seeks to accelerate Gianpiero Lambiase's move from Red Bull
McLaren CEO Zak Brown is expressing optimism that Gianpiero Lambiase will join the team as early as 2027, potentially ahead of the previously announced timeline of 2028 at the latest.
Lambiase, currently a race engineer for Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing, has already been recruited by McLaren. While McLaren initially stated he would serve as director of race operations reporting to Andrea Stella, Red Bull's Laurent Mekies suggested the role might eventually lead to a team principal position.
The move marks the end of a highly successful partnership between Lambiase and Verstappen, who have worked together since Verstappen joined Red Bull in 2016. An earlier arrival at McLaren would allow the Woking-based team to integrate Lambiase's extensive Formula 1 experience more quickly.
