Oscar Piastri’s front‑wing crash curtails McLaren’s Silverstone race

At the start of the British Grand Prix in Silverstone, McLaren driver Oscar Piastri was caught in a tight pack before Turn 6, which caused front‑wing damage and forced an early pit stop. The incident dropped him to the back of the field; despite fighting back, he could only recover to 11th place by the chequered flag.

Piastri said the opening lap turned into a “multi‑class” scramble because drivers were using the new hybrid power‑unit settings differently, creating large speed differentials. He described the first lap as “carnage” and noted that the varying electric‑power deployment made the start especially chaotic.

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella criticised the overall pace at Silverstone, saying the fourth‑place finish of teammate Lando Norris did not reflect the true performance of the cars and was aided by the misfortunes of other rivals. Norris took a podium in the sprint race and ended the Grand Prix fourth, while Piastri earned sprint points with a seventh‑place finish.
