McLaren supercar catches fire at Southern California tow yard
A wrecked McLaren supercar spontaneously ignited at a secured Southern California tow yard in Costa Mesa, weeks after a fatal crash killed its driver, James Wehr, and passenger Lexi Kramer.
Surveillance footage shows sparks appearing on the wreckage before the fire spread through the storage garage. The vehicle was being held at a facility contracted by the Irvine Police Department. No injuries were reported during this second blaze.
Investigators believe extensive damage to the vehicle's electrical system from the original September 13 crash may have caused the fire. While the cause is still being determined by Costa Mesa Fire and Rescue, authorities stated that arson is not suspected.
