McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella discusses team legacy and driver dynamics

McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella has reflected on the team’s recent era of success and the evolving dynamics between drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Following a highly competitive 2025 season where the two drivers battled for the World Drivers' Championship, Stella noted that the intense rivalry has strengthened rather than fractured the relationship between the drivers and the team.

Under Stella’s leadership since early 2023, McLaren has undergone a significant transformation, moving from the back of the grid to becoming consistent podium contenders. The team secured its first Constructors' Championship in 26 years in 2024 and repeated the feat in 2025. During the 2025 season, Lando Norris secured his first Drivers' Championship after a season-long fight with Piastri.

As the team prepares for the 2026 season, Stella emphasized the responsibility of maintaining McLaren’s historical legacy. The team recently celebrated two major milestones at the Monaco Grand Prix: sixty years since its Formula 1 debut and its 1,000th Grand Prix entry, making it only the second team in history to reach such a mark after Ferrari.
