McLaren and Porsche announce new manual and electric vehicle updates
At Monterey Car Week, McLaren unveiled the McL 6GT concept, a pre-production prototype that marks the company’s return to manual transmissions for the first time since the 1992 F1. Inspired by Bruce McLaren’s unfinished M6GT project from the 1960s, the McL 6GT features a V8 engine, a six-speed manual gearbox, hydraulic steering, and rear-wheel drive. The production version is expected to debut in 2028 as an ultra-exclusive model positioned above the current core lineup.
In parallel, Porsche announced several updates for its electric Macan lineup. The brand is introducing an ‘Advanced Package’ for the Macan, Macan 4, and Macan 4S, which bundles popular options like a panoramic roof, Matrix LED headlights, and Bose Surround Sound at a reduced cost. Additionally, Porsche is increasing standard equipment for the Macan, including adaptive cruise control and automated parking. For performance models like the Macan GTS and Turbo, a 22 kW AC charger will now be standard.
Porsche is also reintroducing a manual transmission option for the 911 Carrera S for the 2027 model year via a new ‘MT Package’ specifically for the North American market. This package includes a six-speed manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive, and enhanced chassis components such as rear-axle steering and PASM sport suspension.
