McLaren to create 1,000 UK jobs following £450m investment

McLaren plans to create 1,000 jobs in the United Kingdom as part of a £450 million investment in its technology centre in Woking. The expansion aims to bolster manufacturing and research and development operations at the Surrey site.

The move follows a restructuring led by Chief Executive Nick Collins after the merger of McLaren Automotive and electric vehicle startup Forseven. This follows the acquisition of McLaren Automotive by CYVN Holdings, an Abu Dhabi-based investment company, from Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat. CYVN has indicated plans to invest $2 billion over five years to revitalize the automotive business.

As part of its turnaround programme, McLaren intends to broaden its product range beyond supercars. The company’s board has recently added prominent industry figures, including former Ferrari chair Luca di Montezemolo and Torsten Müller-Ötvös, formerly of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
