McLaren to sell five historic Formula 1 cars

McLaren Racing has announced the sale of five historic, fully functioning Formula 1 cars from its heritage collection. The sale, managed by luxury dealer Tom Hartley Jr., spans 32 years of the team's history, from 1991 to 2023.

The collection includes two 1991 MP4/6A chassis (04 and 07) featuring Honda V12 engines, which were raced by Gerhard Berger and tested by Ayrton Senna. Also featured is a 2012 MP4/27A (chassis 01) used by Jenson Button and tested by Lewis Hamilton. The remaining two cars are modern models used by Lando Norris: the 2021 MCL35M and the 2023 MCL37A-03. The latter was notably tested by actor Brad Pitt during preparations for the film ‘F1’.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown stated that the decision to sell was made to ensure the cars are “driven and raced” rather than remaining in storage. While official prices have not been released, market estimates suggest individual cars could fetch between £5 million and £10 million.
