McLaren unveils McL 6GT concept with manual transmission

McLaren Automotive has unveiled the McL 6GT, a new concept supercar prototype presented at Monterey Car Week. The vehicle is designed to bridge the brand's racing heritage with modern technology, drawing inspiration from the M6GT, a project envisioned by founder Bruce McLaren in the 1960s.

A defining feature of the McL 6GT is the inclusion of a manual transmission, marking the first time a McLaren production car will feature a manual gearbox since the legendary McLaren F1. The prototype utilizes a V8 internal combustion engine and a rear-wheel-drive configuration, focusing on providing a direct, physical connection between the driver and the machine through hydraulic steering and tactile controls.

The car's design reinterprets 1960s sports prototype racing aesthetics, featuring a low, wide stance and a seamless form from the nose to the Kamm tail. It is constructed using advanced ultra-lightweight carbon fiber technology, including a carbon fiber monocoque and bodywork. A production version of the McL 6GT is expected to arrive in 2028.
