McLaren's tyre gamble hampers Norris and Piastri at Canadian Grand Prix

McLaren opted for intermediate tyres for Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri at the start of the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, while most of the grid chose slicks as the track began to dry. Norris briefly took the lead but was forced into an early pit stop and later retired on lap 40 due to a technical failure. He later said, “I probably felt on the warm‑up lap it wasn’t a good choice.”

Piastri also switched to dry tyres after the first lap and was involved in a minor collision with Alexander Albon later in the race. He finished 11th and told Sky Sports, “We could have been heroes, but we look like idiots.” Both drivers and the team acknowledged the tyre decision was a mistake that cost them any chance of a points finish.
