McLean Main wildfire remains out of control near Port Alberni FAST-MOVING
The McLean Main fire, located in the Beaufort Range near Port Alberni, remains out of control as of Saturday, August 22, 2026. The wildfire, covering approximately 0.39 hectares, was discovered on the afternoon of Friday, August 21, following a brief thunderstorm.
Ground crews from the B.C. Wildfire Service and aerial firefighting helicopters are actively working to combat the blaze. While smoke is visible from Port Alberni, Sproat Lake, and surrounding areas, the B.C. Wildfire Service reports that the fire does not pose a threat to any structures.
Due to the fire's proximity to the Alberni Valley Regional Airport, the Vancouver Island Soaring Centre has suspended operations. Under Transport Canada regulations, an automatic no-fly zone is in effect for all aircraft and drones not involved in direct firefighting efforts.
