McLeod Bethel-Thompson named starting quarterback for Ottawa Redblacks

The Ottawa Redblacks have named veteran McLeod Bethel-Thompson as their starting quarterback for their upcoming game against the Calgary Stampeders. The decision follows a relief appearance by Bethel-Thompson in a recent 26-23 loss to the Toronto Argonauts, where he completed 16 of 23 passes for 192 yards and one touchdown.

Head coach and general manager Ryan Dinwiddie confirmed the change, noting that the 38-year-old veteran earned the opportunity through his performance and patience. The move comes as the Redblacks hold a 0-12 record. While Bethel-Thompson takes the starting role, Dinwiddie indicated he still believes in previous starter Jake Maier.

The Redblacks' recent loss to Toronto was marked by controversy, as Dinwiddie criticized an offensive pass interference penalty on Nick Mardner that negated a critical first down in the fourth quarter. The defeat extended Ottawa's losing streak to 18 games.
