MCMC engages e-commerce platforms to bolster consumer protection
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) held an engagement session with e-commerce platform providers, ministries, and relevant agencies to coordinate measures for strengthening consumer protection and the safety of the national e-commerce ecosystem.
The session was prompted by public concerns regarding user safety and legal compliance within the e-commerce sector. It aligns with directives from Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil to enhance regulation through cooperation between ministries, enforcement agencies, and platform providers.
Discussions focused on creating a balanced business environment between online commerce and physical premises, while considering feedback from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and the retail sector. MCMC emphasized that platform providers must strengthen seller identity verification processes and use technology to monitor and quickly act against illegal or dangerous product listings.
