McNeese Cowboys hold first fall camp scrimmage

The McNeese Cowboys conducted their first football scrimmage of fall camp at Navarre Stadium in Lake Charles. The session served as a live evaluation for head coach Matt Viator and his staff ahead of the August 29 season opener against Stephen F. Austin.

The scrimmage featured approximately 90 plays, including red zone and third-down situations. The offense recorded 415 total yards, with 307 coming on the ground. Notable offensive performances included quarterback Jake Strong, who threw two touchdown passes, and running back Hutch Swilley, who scored the team's only rushing touchdown. Transfer running back Omiri Wiggins also contributed 80 yards on 11 carries.

Defensively, the Cowboys recorded nine quarterback sacks, with RJ Staten and Sean Dubose each contributing multiple sacks. The defensive unit also secured two interceptions via Mason Edwards and Jermaine Hargraves. The team's kicking unit successfully converted all four field goal attempts during the session.
