MCP Server Survey Reveals One‑Third Incompatible with AI Agents

Using the open‑source tool mcpgrade, Teng Li scanned 36 widely used Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers. The tool grades each server on compliance, description quality, naming and token handling, producing a Lighthouse‑style scorecard.

Fifteen servers—including Brave Search, Exa, Google Maps, Slack, Perplexity‑Ask, Shopify, Apify, Airbnb, Figma, Tavily, GitLab, Elastic and Shrimp‑Task‑Manager—earned top A grades. Eleven servers, notably MongoDB, Notion, Airtable, Todoist, GitHub’s archived reference server and Firecrawl, received D/F grades because many parameters lacked descriptions, a problem dubbed the “undocumented‑parameter epidemic.” Two services (Stripe and Supabase) could not be scanned.
