MDG proposes import fees on Temu and higher tolls for fossil cars
The Green Party (MDG) has proposed several new environmental and economic measures in Norway. As part of upcoming budget negotiations with the Labour Party, MDG is demanding a minimum fee of 20 NOK per package for online shopping from countries outside the EEA. This measure aims to curb the influx of low-cost goods from platforms like Temu and Shein, which the party describes as potentially harmful to health, fire safety, and the environment, while also undercutting local businesses.
MDG intends for these funds to strengthen customs controls. Additionally, the party is advocating for VAT exemptions on reuse and repairs to support a circular economy.
In a separate proposal regarding urban transport, MDG Oslo is calling for a law change that would allow municipalities to implement higher toll rates. Specifically, they propose that new petrol or diesel cars purchased after 2026 should pay double the toll rates in Oslo to reduce emissions, noise, and air pollution.
