Médio Piracicaba municipalities unite for climate disaster prevention
Municipalities in the Médio Piracicaba region of Brazil have established a new regional agenda to prevent and respond to extreme climate events. During the I Permanent Forum of Médio Piracicaba Against Disasters held in João Monlevade, representatives from various public and private institutions met to coordinate strategies against threats such as global warming and El Niño.
Under the coordination of the Association of Municipalities of the Médio Piracicaba Microregion (Amepi), three primary actions were approved. First, the creation of the Technical Chamber for Disaster Prevention in Médio Piracicaba (CTCod) will serve as a permanent space for information sharing and regional strategy development.
Second, a legal analysis will be conducted to create a mechanism allowing municipalities to provide mutual aid during calamities, ensuring legal security for inter-administration cooperation. Third, the region will implement training programs led by the State Civil Defense and the Fire Department, focusing on preparing public agents and the general population through self-rescue education.
