MDoNER urges Nagaland to expedite development projects
The Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (MDoNER) has directed the Nagaland government to accelerate the implementation of ongoing development projects and strengthen monitoring processes to ensure timely completion.
During a review meeting in Kohima, MDoNER Joint Secretary Dr. Vipul Aggarwal emphasized the need for the state to urgently identify and submit priority projects for the 16th Finance Commission. He advised departments to submit these proposals by the end of October, noting that they should not wait for final allocation figures. Aggarwal also warned that liabilities from the 14th and 15th Finance Commissions would not be carried forward to the 17th Finance Commission.
The review focused on projects under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE) and other MDoNER schemes. Specific projects discussed included a 50-bed hospital in Peren, a multispecialty hospital in Chumoukedima, and stadium facilities at Peren Government College. Aggarwal called for a clear roadmap for completion, prioritizing older projects and those achievable by the next financial year to address socioeconomic gaps and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) performance.
