MDR and MDM release seven new animation films from Central Germany

The Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) and Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM) have completed the ‘Key Frames 2026’ funding program, resulting in the production of seven short animated films from Central Germany.

Produced within a few months, the films showcase the creative capabilities of animation artists and production companies in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia. The works address contemporary social issues through various artistic styles and are currently available for viewing in the ARD Mediathek.

One featured project, ‘Das letzte Wort’, is a three-part mini-series using Erzgebirge wooden figures to discuss controversial topics such as public broadcasting fees, renewable energy, and immigration.
