MEAC Commissioner Sonja Stills Secures Five-Year Extension

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced that Commissioner Sonja Stills has signed a five‑year contract extension, keeping her at the helm through 2031. Stills, the first woman to lead an NCAA Division I HBCU conference, was praised by Norfolk State University President Dr. Javaune Adams‑Gastón for her advocacy of student‑athletes and strategic vision.

Since taking office in 2022, Stills has overseen the expansion of the conference to 16 championship sports, adding women’s golf and women’s flag football, launched the MEAC Network for live streaming of all championships, and secured long‑term media agreements with ESPN and ESPN Events. She also guided the development of a strategic long‑range plan, established the MEAC Foundation, and expanded leadership, wellness and mental‑health programs for athletes, while working with the NCAA and Congressional Black Caucus on policy issues affecting HBCU institutions.
