Meadow launches minimalist device to reduce smartphone distraction
A startup has developed Meadow, a small, Android-based device designed to help users reduce screen time by providing only essential services without the distractions of social media or web browsers. The device features a 3-inch square touchscreen and is intended to function as a companion to a primary smartphone rather than a full replacement.
Key functionalities include calls, text messaging, Google Maps, Uber, Spotify, and Apple Music. It also supports digital ticket display, note-taking, and voice memos. To discourage constant screen checking, the device lacks a front-facing camera; instead, it uses a rear lens and a small mirror for framing selfies. Photos are synced later rather than being reviewed immediately on the screen.
Meadow operates independently with its own cellular connection and phone number. In the United States, service is provided via T-Mobile with plans starting at $15 per month.
