Mearsheimer warns against Trump's potential military escalation with Iran

Political scientist John Mearsheimer has warned that any new military adventures by Donald Trump against Iran would result in a heavy defeat for the United States. Mearsheimer noted that while administration officials and certain media outlets claimed Iran's economy was on the brink of collapse, these assertions appeared to be part of a rhetorical campaign rather than reality.

According to Mearsheimer, the U.S. lacks sufficient ground forces for an invasion of Iran. He also disputed claims regarding naval strength in the region, stating that despite the arrival of the USS Theodore Roosevelt, the departure of the USS George H.W. Bush to Thailand leaves only one aircraft carrier stationed in the area.

Mearsheimer further argued that Washington is facing a military and economic stalemate. He suggested that a short-term bombing campaign would be ineffective, citing previous unsuccessful military efforts, and warned that resuming conflict under current conditions would lead to significant political consequences for the Republican Party.
