Kosovo reports measles outbreak with 137 confirmed cases

Kosovo is experiencing a significant rise in measles cases, with the National Institute of Public Health reporting 137 confirmed cases between April 16 and August 17, 2026. The highest concentration of infections is located in Prishtina and Fushë-Kosovo.

Medical professionals, including Dr. Florina Grezda, have issued urgent appeals for increased vaccination among children to prevent further outbreaks and severe complications such as pneumonia or encephalitis. Data indicates that many of the affected children, particularly those aged 1 to 2, were unvaccinated.

In response to the surge, vaccination teams have intensified efforts in high-risk municipalities. In Prishtina and surrounding areas, hundreds of children who had missed their scheduled MMR doses have recently been immunized.
