Los Angeles County health officials issued a public‑health alert after a visitor infected with measles spent 11 hours at Universal Studios Hollywood on Sunday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Anyone present during that window may have been exposed to the highly contagious virus. The department advises all visitors to monitor for fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes or rash until August 16 and to seek medical advice if symptoms appear. Unvaccinated individuals or those with unknown vaccination status are at higher risk, while those who have received two doses of the measles‑mumps‑rubella (MMR) vaccine are likely protected. Dr. Muntu Davis, Los Angeles County Health Officer, emphasized the importance of vaccination, stating the MMR vaccine is “the safest and most reliable way to prevent measles.” The alert comes amid a nationwide surge, with 2,371 measles cases reported in 2026—the highest total since 1991—driven largely by unvaccinated populations.
