Measles exposures reported at medical facilities in Danville and Santa Barbara

Health systems in the United States have issued warnings following measles exposures at medical facilities.

Geisinger has notified the public of a potential measles exposure at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. A visitor suspected of having the illness was present at the facility between the afternoon of August 12 and the evening of August 13, 2026. Exposed areas included the Emergency Department waiting room, the Pediatric Emergency Department, the second floor of Janet Weis Children's Hospital, the GMC Atrium, and Fluoroscopy. Geisinger advises individuals who were in these areas during that time to monitor for symptoms, noting that unvaccinated and immunocompromised individuals face higher risks.

In Santa Barbara County, Sutter Health confirmed at least one case of measles connected to a patient who visited its care sites between July 29 and August 6. Reports indicate that at least one cancer patient was exposed at the Ridley-Tree Cancer Center and required immunoglobulin infusions. Additionally, three other cancer patients were reportedly exposed to an unvaccinated individual. County Public Health is investigating the case and has emphasized that immunocompromised individuals, including those undergoing cancer treatment, remain at risk regardless of vaccination status.
