Measles Outbreak Spreads in Ohio and Pennsylvania

Ohio health officials are investigating a growing measles outbreak, monitoring potential exposures across multiple communities and urging residents to verify vaccination status. The virus, described as highly contagious and capable of remaining airborne for up to two hours, has prompted local health departments to issue alerts and coordinate response efforts.

In Pennsylvania, the Department of Health has confirmed 176 measles cases statewide in 2026, with Chester County reporting 29 cases. More than 800 people have been vaccinated at pop‑up clinics, and officials continue to encourage the public to review their immunization records. Chester County Public Health Director Jeanne Franklin warned that cases are arriving steadily, while pediatrician Dr. Hazel Guinto highlighted the risk of serious complications, noting that up to 30% of infected individuals may experience severe outcomes.
