Measles outbreaks spark health alerts in Maldives and New South Wales

The Health Protection Agency in the Maldives confirmed two additional measles infections, bringing the current outbreak to 22 cases after the disease re‑emerged earlier this year. Authorities urged the public to seek medical care for fever and rash, wear masks, avoid public transport, and ensure they have received both doses of the MMR vaccine. Ongoing contact tracing and surveillance are being conducted to contain further spread.

In Australia, the Mid North Coast Local Health District warned residents after a traveler returning from Southeast Asia visited Port Macquarie Base Hospital while infectious. The district listed specific hospital exposure times and advised anyone who attended those locations within the past six days, especially pregnant people, the immunocompromised, or parents of infants, to contact the public health unit. Dr Valerie Delpech emphasized, "If symptoms develop and you've been at one of the locations… see your doctor or health service, and call ahead to let them know you may have been exposed," and reminded the community to be up to date with MMR vaccinations.
