Meat Corporation of Namibia targets N$365m in Norwegian beef exports and posts profit despite cattle slump
The Meat Corporation of Namibia (Meatco) expects to earn about N$365 million from Norwegian beef exports in 2026 after securing an additional quota through a Namibia‑Botswana government agreement. The deal adds 344,766 kg of unused Botswana quota to Meatco’s share, projected to generate an extra N$100 million. The company fully utilized its initial quota by June, five months earlier than the previous year, and aims to use the new allocation before year‑end.
Meatco also reported a profit after tax of N$40.5 million for the year ended 31 January 2026, despite a 53 % drop in cattle throughput, which cut revenue to N$1.1 billion. Positive operating cash flow of N$73.5 million and increased cash reserves were recorded. Interim CEO Ambassador Albertus Aochamub highlighted focus on operational performance and market access, while Deputy Chair Stephanie de Klerk noted progress in financial resilience.
